Questions
1. I am running for a seat on the Catawba County Board of Commissioners because Catawba County has blessed my family, and I have a desire to give back and make a difference in the lives of all Catawbans.
Catawba County has experienced the best of times and the worst of times and we have all had to make sacrifices because of cutbacks and job losses. I have worked as your county commissioner to help bring companies such as Apple, Turbotec and worked with existing companies to bring much needed jobs. However, there is more work that needs to be done to replace the jobs that have been lost to overseas companies.
Above all, I am a Catawba County native with a vested interest in what happens to and in Catawba County. My relatives were some of the founding fathers of Catawba County, and I want to continue to be your county commissioner.
2. Prepare a fiscal budget which maintains services as much as possible in light of economic uncertainty and no property tax increase. Continue to examine ways to reduce expenses in each department and ways to conserve energy.
Continue strategies to create jobs through educational opportunities to make sure the workforce is trained for tomorrow’s jobs and invest in infrastructure and development of the county’s quality of life.
Support a positive environment for new and existing businesses. Make sure the findings of the Economic Competitive Plan and the Food and Sustainability Plan become our vision.
3. Public problems involve four basic public values: liberty, equality, community and prosperity. Public problems arise when people pursue different public values. Public choices arise when we have to decide how to get more of one value without giving up too much of another value. A good solution is one that achieves as much of each value as possible.
4. I am the best candidate to serve as your Catawba County Commissioner because:
A. I am totally committed to devote the time to do the job.
B. I have 16 years experience serving on the board of commissioners and have served on numerous county, state, regional and federal advisory boards that help set regulations and policies that affect the everyday business of Catawba County.
C. I am in touch with the citizens of Catawba County. I work hard to provide excellent constitute service to our citizens and find solutions to their problems.
